Hey, remember that hot teenager from “Saved By the Bell?” Mario Lopez is now the host of “Extra” and “Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew,” and he’s got a new recipe and guide to eating lean book coming out titled “Extra Lean Family.” He’ll be signing copies in May.
Born in San Diego, CA, of Mexican heritage, Lopez started out as an avid wrestler at Chula Vista High School. In 1989, two years before graduating, Lopez was cast as A.C. Slater on “Saved By The Bell.” This was not his first television appearance however. In 1984, he appeared on the short-lived comedy series “a.k.a. Pablo” and in 1987 he guest starred on the hugely popular “The Golden Girls.”
Lopez has had a successful career as a television host since gradating from “Saved By The Bell” and it’s spin-off “The College Years.” He’s been the host of “Name Your Adventure,” “Masters of the Maze,” “America’s Most Talented Kid” and the talk show “The Other Half,” among others. In 2006, Lopez was also a contestant on Season 3 of “Dancing With The Stars,” partnering his girlfriend at the time, Karina Smirnoff.
