About the Author:

Clarissa Rudolph-Hastings is one of the 2018 Ambassadors of the Word for the United States of America, as appointed by the Cesar Egido Serrano Foundation, an organization in Toledo, Spain, that promotes international peace and unity through dialogue. Her writing is influenced from her experience as a counselor, teacher, and scientist. As a teacher, she has worked with Sandia National Laboratories and Intel to bring microtechnology, biotechnology, and project-based learning into the classroom, a task she has executed with a great deal of success to her students. She was nominated as the Golden Apple Teacher of the Year Award and the National Biology Teacher of the Year Award in 2004. She has volunteered her time as a Regional Science Fair Judge at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico, over the last two years. Since completing her Master of Arts degree in 1998, Clarissa has worked as a counselor, both in a treatment center and in public schools. This year, she was nominated as one of the 2017-2018 Counselors of the Year Awards for an elementary school. She has additionally gained experience as a Chaplain, which opened her eyes to how people deal with death. Her ideas as a writer on the topic of grief, however, stem mostly from her personal experience of losing her parents so young. She believes that sorrow is a life time occurrence that is part of our journey. Her strength comes from her relationship with God, who gives her the tools and strategies to cope with pain through tears, prayer, and reading the Bible. Currently, she is collaborating with other Ambassadors throughout the world to write an Anthology for Peace, which is upcoming.

About the Book:

The Healing Basket, set in northern New Mexico in the 1970’s, is about an older woman, Nevaeh, and a young girl, Mary Grace, who befriend one another. Nevaeh teaches Mary Grace how to cope with sorrow by telling stories about mementoes she keeps in a basket. Together, they celebrate their time together and learn that we exist through memories left behind. Mary Grace accepts the things she cannot change as an opportunity to build her hope, her faith, her strength, and her understanding about why she is on this journey. Nevaeh helps Mary Grace see the spirit of our loved ones in special moments that are embraced and remembered. When Nevaeh shares the essence of her life in The Healing Basket Mary Grace learns her greatest lesson. It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Ultimately, love never dies.
